Paul Kropp, AScT
After working several years the construction and HVAC industry I joined FortisBC (formerly known as Terasen Gas) as a Distribution Mechanic constructing natural gas mains and services then into a Service Technician role maintaining customer stations and meter sets. After 13 years as a technician I moved into management with the past 8 years as the Operations Manager, Pipeline. In this role I lead a team of Technicians charged with the safe, reliable and environmentally responsible operation of the high pressure natural gas transmission system throughout the interior of British Columbia. I am accountable for emergency response plans, capital projects and maintenance programs while ensuring compliance with standards, codes and regulations. I liaise and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, municipal and government agencies, land owners and First Nations on both regulatory and policy matters.
Why I Became A Technology Professional
- I have always had an interest in technology which started in high school when I earned the top technology education award upon graduation with a focus on drafting and building design. My father worked in the Gas Industry which gave me valuable insight into the midstream/downstream natural gas business. My extended family also managed a small HVAC company and I was called upon to assist with gas appliance, piping and venting installations.
