Larry Nelson, AScT
As Operations Manager for Interior Road Ltd I successfully managed two Service Areas ( Thompson District and the Robson District) and in 1996 was promoted to General Manager of the Company. Today we operate two of the largest Service Areas in the Province: South and Central Cariboo areas comprising over 10,000 lane km of roads and about 250 bridges. Our company has over 200 employees operating from 13 maintenance depots. These employees provide Road, Bridge and Mechanical maintenance services in the execution of over 200 different Maintenance and Rehabilitation activities for the Provincial Government, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
Why I Became A Technology Professional
- My Father introduced me to construction in my teenage years and I worked as a Carpenter’s Apprentice for 3 summers during high school. During Grade 11 a BCIT representative came to my high school and introduced me to the BCIT Civil and Structural Program. From that moment on, I was hooked to go to BCIT. I joined ASTTBC as a Student Technologist in 1969 and gained a lot of insight into what my Engineering Diploma and membership in ASTTBC could do for my career.
