Career Experience

I started work as a mechanical draftsman for a machinery fabricator and then spent 10 years as a HVAC draftsman & plumbing and fire protection designer/inspector. In 1980, I started with B.C. Hydro as a fire specialist doing fire training, fire design, audits and fire investigations. In 1995, I moved to Engineering as a technologist leader, fire protection supervisor, Sr Engineer, Engineering Team Lead, Project Manager and Specialist Engineer. In Feb.09, I became the B.C Hydro Fire Marshal.

Why I Became A Technology Professional

  • I joined SETBC (ASTTBC) in 1972 to be recognized as valued part of the engineering team and to support an organization with the goals of promoting technicians and technologists as a important part of the engineering team.

Career Highlights

  • CET & AScT certification/APEGBC Engineering Licensee status
  • As a BC Hydro Technologist, being promoted to positions of Senior and Specialist Engineer.
  • Wrote a chapter on Substation Fire Protection for “Electric Power Substations Engineering” book
  • Fire protection fire hazard & risk analysis consulting projects in Canada, the US & Australia.
  • Chairperson of the IEEE 979 Substation Fire Protection Working Group.

  • Member of the Society Of Fire Protection Engineers BC Chapter executive
    Volunteered as a pit fire fighter at the Vancouver Indy and Edmonton Indy races
