Chris Racz, GradTech
Construction Tech, Construction Services - BC Hydro. In this role I am responsible for the planning and coordination of all construction activities. I plan the work for three separate field crews (Civil, Electrical, and Line) totalling 40 employees. I specialize in construction estimating, but am responsible for the projects form beginning to end. In this role I work very closely with each crewâ??s foreman, this has enabled me to learn a lot about each discipline. Additionally I work a lot with the clients Project Manager; this has sparked a serious interest in project management and I hope to one day get my PMP designation. Another positive about this position is that it has allowed me to travel around all of Northern BC, and see some truly amazing places that I would have never encountered. Kova Engineering â?? Crane Inspector. Before working for BC Hydro, I worked as a crane inspector for Kova Engineering. I was responsible for inspecting and certifying aerial lifting equipment for use. After each inspection I was responsible for writing a detailed inspection report for the client. In this role I got to inspect all sorts of lifting devices such as; man lifts, scissor lifts, rough terrain cranes, and tower cranes. There is nothing like getting over your fear of heights by inspecting a 500 foot tower crane.
Why I Became A Technology Professional
- During high school I was very interested in bridge construction and design; this inspired me to get into Civil Engineering. That started me down the path to becoming a Technology Professional. Once I completed my diploma it was important for me to keep up to date with my organization (ASTTBC) and to help spread awareness about activities our organization offers. Furthermore it is a great way to keep up with other local Technology Professionals.
Professional & Community Activities
- Community Science Celebration, indoor / outdoor soccer, group hikes.
