I began my career as a Geographer and Geomatics Technician at Simon Fraser University as a Marine Life Research Assistant. In this role, I assisted with the classification and mapping of different types of sea vegetation around Tofino.
Why I Became A Technology Professional
- I became a Geomatics Technician because of my interests in mapping just about anything through GIS and Remote Sensing, particularly issues involving the environment. I discovered that this was an area of Geography I wanted to study in part because of the research opportunities in my employment program at the Neil Squire Society. One day, I hope to map volcanic landscapes in Hawaii using geomatics technology.
Professional & Community Activities
- Currently, I volunteer as a Nature Guide for the City of Surrey, informing locals of the important urban wildlife in Surrey Parks. I have assisted in planning events and opportunities for geography students through the Geography Student Union at Simon Fraser University. Lastly, I assisted individuals in the Neil Squire program through public speaking, representation and training of Dragon Naturally Speaking.
